In the field of medicine: Professor Stanley G. Schultz, MD, USA
In the field of public health: Dr. David R. Nalin, MD, USA; Dr. Richard A. Cash, MD, MPH, USA; and Dr. Dilip Mahalanabis, MBBS, DCH (London), FRCP (Edin), India.
HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, as President of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation, sent a congratulatory message to Dr. Margaret Chan, the Prince Mahidol Award laureate for 1998, on the occasion of being elected as Director-General of the World Health Organization.
H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej graciously sent a congratulatory message to Dr. Margaret Chan on 6 December 2006 on the occasion of her appointment as Director-General of the World Health Organization.
H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously granted an audience to Professor Barry Marshall, the Prince Mahidol Award laureate in public health for 2001 and Nobel Prize laureate in medicine for 2005 at Sa Pathum Villa on 14 November 2006. Professor Marshall travelled to Thailand to attend the 6th Western-Pacific Helicobacter Congress held at Plaza Athenee Hotel in Bangkok.
